META tags - Use Them
Far too little attention is given to the venerable metatag but they can be exceedingly important in your search optimization strategy.

There are three main metatags - title, description and keywords - that are found towards the beginning of all web pages (or should be).

The TITLE tag

The Title tag - it's what is displayed in your browser's title bar when your website is being looked at. Only 65 characters here and they HAVE to be well chosen because Google does use these words to rank your website. Because they appear in the search engine results pages they also have to be descriptive to humans.

The DESCRIPTION tag

The Description tag is (we understand) not used by Google to rank web pages. BUT it is the text that is displayed (most of the time) below the TITLE tag in the search results. Therefore it is its impact on humans that is important. Only 125 characters are visible and they must be of sufficient quality to entice the visitor to click on the link and go to your website.

The KEYWORDS tag

The Keywords tag is rarely used by search engines because of abuse but a few still look.
